Happy New Year, my fellow festive writers. I hope you enjoyed your festivities. Now we’ve set our first foot in to the new year and I’m sure a lot of you have new years’ resolutions you plan to accomplish.
Personally, I have yet to complete a resolution I set for myself. To be honest, I am not very good when I’m left to my own devices. It’s why I started the Writers Diary section of this.
For those of you who don’t know, my writer’s diary is where I keep a log of all the things I have accomplished as well as all my (many) failures. This helps me gage my progress, as well as learn and reflect from my experiences. It’s also a good way for me to focus and celebrate the good things. Which if you are a naturally negative person like me, you need to force yourself to admit when you’ve done something worth celebrating. Especially in something like writing, where rejection is high and the impostor syndrome is higher.
If you want to know more about it, please read the first writer’s diary entry here and let’s get to it.
Missed goals:
Publishing one post every week on Monday nights. What Happened: I started of publishing every Monday, didn’t stay as consistent. I have also missed 2 weeks and cheated by publishing two in one week. Which isn’t bad, but used it as an excuse. What I learnt: Mid weeks seem to be when I am more able to publish rather than the beginning. So, I am going to reset my schedule to publish Wednesdays and Thursdays. And see which one works better for me.
Writing and publishing 1 short story What Happened: I started a new job, my schedule changed, and anxiety decided to run wild. What I learnt: Need a new schedule as the old one no longer fits the job and travel. I have now also not to precious myself in to writing when I’m in no state to do so.
Creating A Writing Schedule and Space What Happened: It just didn’t. We are planning on moving again, which put a stop to my plans. What did I learnt: I’ll just have to see what happens and try to make the space I have got at the moment work for me.
Achieved Goals:
Create A List of Potential competitions and websites I have done this and have been adding more. Also, I have been reading some of their issues as well just to find what which one would be best for me and my writing. It’s good to know the outlets that are available.
Learning more about Wix and how to better my blog Learning from YouTube and skill share, a lot more needs to be learnt, but it’s getting there.
Publishing (how many posts) They may not all be good, and I am going to hate them in a year's time (I hate some of them already) but every post I publish I’m hopefully getting better. I don’t think of myself as someone who has natural talent in writing, but I think if you work on a skill you can improve.
Three accomplished, three missed, that isn’t a bad ratio to start with.
to work on in the new year, which brings me to..
New Goals:
Space and Time
Start a short story
Begin project Ghost (you will see)
And there we have my goals, past, and present. Hope you’ll join in and maybe set your own goals. Just remember, not achieving a goal isn’t the end of the world. It just means something isn’t working for you and something needs changing.
Guten Rutsch,
The Overly Anxious Writer
